Lew Rubens, one of the most respected Rigger in the bondage scene

Lew Rubens, one of the most respected Rigger in the bondage scene was performing at Folsom Street Fair last weekend Sept 28, 2008 in San Francisco. Marquis Magazine was lucky enough to get an interview and here it is live from Folsom Street Fair.

In his own words:

My name is Lew Rubens. I've been a bondage lover for as long as I can remember. My childhood playmates were constantly finding themselves tied-up by whatever I could find handy under the guise of some game or another. As I got older I began concentrating my bondage efforts on the women in my life. Thanks to a few open-minded girlfriends, I was able to explore many fantasies concerning my love of bondage.

Not long ago I discovered the internet! It has been an amazing, inspiring journey ever since. I knew there were others out there who had similar interests to mine, but I never dreamed about this exciting new world. I found local scene people in the spring of 2001 and have been an active member of the local bdsm community since. I've been able to tie up many beautiful women who actually liked bondage - and knew it - before I came along! By early summer 2001 I learned suspension and have been going crazy with it ever since.

I won a bondage contest at a northwest kinky event called "In the Woods" in the summer of 2001.  Shortly after that I gave a 'Bondage for Pleasure' workshop at Leather Thorn in Bremerton (which I really wanted to call the 'Bondage for Sex' workshop but they had me tone it down a notch), then a suspension demo for the Vancouver Munch folks by late fall. From there I began teaching and doing demonstrations of my work all over the country and other parts of the world. I'm living a dream now. And am already far beyond anything I was capable of dreaming while I was growing up.
Along the way people tried to convince me that some of what I was doing was artistic. I thought I was doing it because it turned me on. Then I started seeing lines in some of the ties and pictures I produced. I ran with it and
eventually it became an artistic out that I never had up to that point.  Now the creative side of my bondage kink needs to be satisfied as much and any other side of my life.

My Motivation

I have spent my entire life as a very shy, private individual. This was partly done of necessity for what was perceived as my forbidden sex life. It is not easy for me to get up in front of people to show my bondage work. The feeling that I'm giving something back to those people who have shown their bondage work to me is my motivating force for overcoming my shyness. If even one person sees and likes a tie that I have created, I feel very proud indeed. So please, if you see anything that I am doing that you like, give me feedback.
