Finally, we have nailed down a date for this year’s LFAJB! Fri 23 Sept - Mon 26 Sept, 2011.

It has been incredibly hard getting a date that doesn’t clash with other events due to the diaries of the key people involved. Due to Kinoko opening a new shop, he was unavailable till late Sept and recent events in Japan have meant that other priorities came to the fore. As it is, I just heard that LFAJB will be on the same weekend as GRUE, but by that time it was too late as everything was in place bar the final public announcement. Unfortunately, we couldn’t plan it for a public holiday weekend. However, as the Friday and Monday daytime sessions will be dedicated to small classes by the likes of Kinoko, we are sure that the lucky few attending will be find it a good excuse to book a day off.

As you might surmise, Kinoko Hajime will be headlining again. He mentioned bringing some members of his Ichinawa group, but more news later. We might also have another big surprise from Japan. Think, old school legends ;-) You can expect a lot of the Usual Suspects from previous years, plus some new talent that has come to our attention. I have just sent off an invitation to Max of the Osada Steve Ryu in Copenhagen, who performed at Toubaku in Tokyo recently and has been appointed as Steve’s proxy at LFAJB. I believe Steve will be attending also but he prefers to take a back seat, unless we can persuade him to change his mind.

This year, in order to avoid overcrowding at peak periods, we are planning a better mix of activities each day. We will be spreading the shows out more as it was felt that the party had too many and not enough time was available to party and play in between.

If anyone has any suggestions for the festival or recommendations of outstanding riggers (the closer to authentic kinbaku, the better), let me know. It’s your festival as much as ours!
