Yoga & Shibari Weekend Workshop in Brussels - July 2010

In this Workshop we study Yoga and the Japanese Bondage Technique, Shibari. Both systems work with different concepts of the body, yet combined the practices lead us to understand bodies in more complex dimensions.

As a first step we learn basic Yoga postures - Asanas. The practitioner concentrates on physical alignment and on applying detailed information onto the body. The rotation of the spine and the mobility of legs play an important role. We strengthen our deep muscle fibers by using Pranayama breathing techniques.

Shibari ropes are part of the Yoga practice. The tactile momentum of the material brings attention to the current moment. It merges with the experience of rope in its qualities of sensuality and manual dexterity.

Nawa Shibari means to wind, to knot or to bind with rope. It refers to the Japanese practice to tie a person with specific aesthetic rules. It is a technique to develop manual skills and to connect to the profound interior of a play partner. Instinctive and imaginative gestures inspire the situation. It can consist of animal-like behavior, power- and empathy exchanges, and highly personal aesthetics.

Depending on the participants' experience, my partner and I will show basic principles and knots as well as advanced suspension figures.

The workshop is open to beginners and advanced people alike. The focus lies on composition and creative realization.

As part of the workshop we will organize a photo shooting on Saturday / Sunday night.
