rediscovered and re-reading the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy - on the kindle, appropriately enough for a book about an ebook - i hadn’t read the other four volumes in the series before - so, altho they’re repetitive, it’s something nostalgic yet fresh (like those richard allen books i’m partial to) - i love this offbeat “philosophic” stuff - makes you want to embarrassingly quote it all the time - i’ll stick to this one (more) line:

Isn’t it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?…

somehow i suspect my other fave such consciousness-expanding books of that time (early 80’s), the illuminatus trilogy and “zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance”, won’t read quite so well today? - and, um, it is only the books (and original uk tv series) i’m into - the continued milking of the legend (fake new novels etc) sucks, the recent film sucks (most probably) and of course the fan sites and silly analysis sucks - but perhaps it’s not that geekilly unkool - radiohead’s finest six minutes 23 seconds, paranoid android, is surely a “hgttg” reference - …tho, it’s also to blame for google?!
