Thanks to rida for this post which also appears at her blog, Musing of X O'clock . The permalink to this post is here .

It took us some research to find a hotel with the Showa feel to it: old tatami floors and wooden poles and beams. But following the lead of a Japanese blog, KabukiJoe found a promising place in Shinjuku. It took two trips to finalize the deal, but here we are.

Entering the somewhat hidden door, the chimes go off and the chatty obasan who runs the place comes out to greet us. There are three of us: KJ, the video guy and me. Being a very old hotel (no elevator), we take our shoes off at the entrance and I can see she remembers us and is genuinely happy to see us there.
