no opening party as such but i hung around the gallery all day - occasionally obliging customers with exclusive rubber-stamping of books - because of the gallery location, as guessed, there were more gothgrannies wandering in than gothlolis - but that was interesting - especially when you see one very happily buying a poster - there were a pair of marie antoinette girls (one step beyond gothic lolita) - the inevitable (?) squealing “sugoi fan” girls barely able to contain themselves being in the same general vicinity as THE trevor brown (which is in fact far more embarrassing for me) - and a similarly “doki doki”, tho a little cooler, akiko ijichi - as much as i wanted to befriend her, sadly we couldn’t talk much (not that i talk much anyway) - also sad to miss tomomi sakuba who visited before i arrived - quite a few “gaijin” - i suspect the gallery staff were thinking wtf re their new atypical clientele - but there are now a total of eight red dots i think - so pretty successful (usually i barely sell anything in japan, most all my paintings going to america or europe) - book sales were noticeably down however - until sparked a little by the arrival of the special edition in the afternoon

as mentioned before, this pretty-in-pink version has a far superior cover - and comes bound with a supplementary “diy pop-up kit” - which is like an extra book cover, containing numerous sheets of shapes to cut out and assemble - there is of course some diagrammatic instructions included - it does look a bit fiddly and intimidating but maybe fun to attempt to make (i wonder if anyone will?) - and the finished construction does actually “work” quite impressively
