conclusion of comix month …i think? - i had jacques tardi books on order but had to cancel due to my credit card details being compromised (k re-ordered for me) - plus a few more things on my wants list (”pim and francie” by al columbia and ron rege stuff) - and yet more upcoming things (more tardi, “almost silent” by jason and “from the ashes” by bob fingerman) - an unusual amount of comix excitement (for me anyway, evidently utterly boring for baby art blog readers)

anyway, “the squirrel machine” stumbled upon during my amazon trawling (here ) - the blurb convinced me i’d love it - and i wasn’t disappointed - a wonderfully surreal and unique personal work (the only possible comparison being renee french?) - obscure dreamlike logic yet a tightly structured linear plot - the sort of book you immediately want to read again (which i did) - it’d make a great movie, ideally by the brothers quay (tho their films are rapidly sinking into atrociousness)

knowing something like this couldn’t have come from nowhere, i googled mr rickheit and surprised to find his chrome fetus website - this being someplace i remember from years’n'years ago, the jigsaw pieces suddenly all clicked into place - i quickly ordered everything available before he elects to hide his “very crude early stuff” - the package of germinatory and elucidatory delights arrived today : )

hans is currently working on an envisaged 600 page graphic novel: “ectopiary”
